I practice individual psychotherapy that keeps focus on the individual.
That may seem like an obvious statement. But, such a therapeutic approach diverges from the proliferating use of manualized therapy with its fixed order of steps and limited set of interventions. In contrast to a manual’s attempts to homogenize the therapeutic experience no matter the therapist or patient, I prefer a process that is as individual as you are. The ability to interact with you—untethered to a manual, based on your individual needs, and shaped by your experience—is one of the advantages of private pay.
Understanding & Healing
My approach engages with you as more than the sum of your symptoms and without reducing you to a diagnosis. Even so, such a therapeutic approach also focuses on treating psychological diagnoses and reducing mental health symptoms.
It is this dynamic, spontaneous interaction that can bring a better understanding of yourself and can stoke the process of healing — all while addressing the many specific reasons you may be seeking individual therapy.
The Hope for Individual Therapy
Perhaps it is a specific issue, challenge, or event that is prompting you to seek Individual treatment. With a deeper understanding of yourself and of your individual circumstances, you are better equipped to withstand such significant challenges as:
- Moving through the pain of divorce and breakups
- Struggling with questions of purpose and identity
- Embracing gender and sexual identity
- Adjusting to life transitions, such as job loss, moves, etc.
- Grieving the death of a loved one
- Achieving intimacy, relatedness, or commitment in close relationships
- Mustering sufficient assertiveness
- Calming aggression and expressions of anger
- Resolving relationship issues
- Relieving the sting of separation, abandonment, and rejection
- Breaking cycles of codependency
- Alleviating impulsivity and compulsiveness
- Developing coping skills
- Healing from trauma, such as sexual abuse, physical assault, etc.
- Elevating self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy, incompetence, etc.
- Cooling rebellious streaks and problems with authority
- Quieting self-criticism, such as negative self-talk, perfectionism, etc.
- Getting close to people and making friends
- Meeting parenting challenges related to adoption, attachment, discipline, intergenerational patterns, etc.
